About

Charlie O'hagan (he/they)

A 30 year old, queer artist born and raised in Ireland with song and stories of Aos Sí and the Tuatha Dé Danann. With a desire to retell and share the old stories, they pursued a career as an artist. They studied Illustration at the University of Gloucestershire between 2011-2014, where they focused on narrative illustration and finished with a first.  Since then they have been working on personal projects, with a focus on creating concepts for unique characters, creatures and worlds.

They started freelancing with their own business the next year, where they received a start-up grant from Invest NI, and a qualification in entrepreneurship to support. They still successfully run this business, making high quality prints, stickers, badges and more from their office. Charlie has also been focusing on illustration for the past two years, contributing to over 20 collectives to raise money for various charities, while also testing their stylistic flexibility.

Since November 2023 they took a full time position as a designer for the Irish animation studio, Paper Owl Films, which has a focus on sharing and teaching Irish stories and language. They are also currently writing a script for their comic, while creating concepts and designs for the world.
